The congregation laughed. Pastor Jeff patted his head. And in the back pew, Missy whispered to Georgie, “I don’t get it.”
“I’ve discovered,” he announced, his voice wobbling only slightly, “that the missing money isn’t theft. It’s poor math. The treasurer forgot to carry the two.”
“Pastor Jeff says a lie is a lie,” he told his pet crow (a dark, flapping shape on his shoulder). “But Dad says telling Grandma her meatloaf is ‘interesting’ isn’t a sin. Therefore, the church has a rounding error… or a thief.”
The credits rolled over a blurry shot of the Cooper house, the stars above Medford, Texas, reduced to tiny, soft squares of light. End of episode. End of story.
