In the end, Abruzzi’s desire to kill Veronica is the show’s great tragic irony. He orders the hit to protect his escape and silence the truth. But it is precisely that act—the brutality of sending a hitman to her apartment—that forces Michael to accelerate the escape, cut corners, and eventually turn against Abruzzi.
