If you’ve only ever seen The Matrix on HBO Max, Blu-ray, or even the 4K UHD disc, you haven’t actually seen The Matrix . Not really.

In recent years, a "phantom print" has been circulating the high seas and private trackers: a 4K scan of an original 1999 35mm film print. To the average viewer, it looks "worse"—grainy, scratchy, and a bit washed out. To the cinephile, it is the only authentic way to experience the Wachowskis' masterpiece.
