The military, of course, had taken notice first. That was why Aris now found himself in a soundproofed bunker beneath Fort Detrick, staring at a man strapped to a reclining chair. The man’s name was Sergeant First Class Marcus Vane. He was a legend—forty-seven confirmed kills, two Silver Stars, a man whose survival instincts were so refined they bordered on precognition. He pressed SDSI-008 to Chen’s neck. The light shifted from blue to amber. He pressed the stud.
