Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) is the leading cause of dry eye disease. It occurs when the tiny oil glands in your eyelids become blocked or produce poor-quality oil. This oil (meibum) normally prevents your tears from evaporating too quickly. When glands are blocked, tears evaporate, leading to redness, burning, grittiness, and blurry vision.
