Wipe away any expressed discharge with a clean, moist cotton ball. Repeat 2–3 times per session.

Press the finger firmly but gently against the skin over the lacrimal sac. Without lifting the finger, sweep downward along the side of the nose toward the nostril (approximately 1–2 cm). The pressure should be enough to slightly blanch the skin but not cause pain.

The goal is to force fluid (tears or mucus) from the sac down into the nose. If successful, you may see fluid or discharge emerge from the puncta or the infant may swallow.
