By 7:13 p.m., Leo was on Maya’s crusty brown couch, a blanket over his head like a fort. Season 1 had been nine episodes, but Season 2 was nine episodes too—and they were longer. Episode 6, “The Spy,” alone stretched to nearly 51 minutes. Maya’s dad kept walking in with popcorn, oblivious to the Demogorgon on screen.

“We’re not even halfway,” she whispered.

Maya fell asleep during the credits. Leo drove home as the sun rose, still humming that cheesy song. He broke his rule—and it was worth every minute.
