It was 4:58 PM on a Friday, and the office of Henderson & Reed was a ticking time bomb.
She closed the folder. Held her breath. Went back to the services console. Right-clicked Print Spooler . Start.
The printer shuddered. The blank sheets stopped sliding out. For one glorious second, there was silence.
She pressed the cancel button. Nothing.
“The nuclear option,” she muttered.
The folder was full of files with names like 00004.SPL and 00004.SHD . Each one was a screaming, digital ghost of a print job. She selected them all. Deleted.
The printer’s display glowed a sickly blue: Processing... 1 of 847.
“No,” she whispered.
