Cyoa - Cafe

It also gamifies the dreaded "what do you want to eat?" conversation. Instead of indecision, you have collaboration. Couples debate whether to open the cursed locket or give it to the museum. Friends argue over whether to bribe the goblin or fight it. The cafe becomes a social engine, not just a feeding trough. The first wave of CYOA Cafes has been a hit on social media, where customers post their "ending screens" and compare story paths. Critics have noted the occasional logic flaw (choosing "run" and "hide" sometimes still leads to the same muffin), but fans don't mind. The joy is in the journey, not the perfect branching tree.

Choose wisely. Your ending depends on it. A bold, caffeinated leap forward for experiential dining. Just don’t ask for the secret menu. That’s a different branch entirely. cyoa cafe

In an era where dining out often means scrolling a static PDF menu on your phone, a new kind of eatery is brewing—one where you are not just a customer, but the protagonist. Welcome to the CYOA Cafe , short for "Choose Your Own Adventure." It also gamifies the dreaded "what do you want to eat

As one regular put it: “I’ve been coming here for six weeks. I’ve had the same character three times. I still haven’t seen the ‘canon’ ending. And I don’t want to. This is my story.” Friends argue over whether to bribe the goblin or fight it

Inspired by the nostalgic gamebook series of the 1980s and branching narrative video games, the CYOA Cafe is a hybrid concept: part coffee shop, part immersive theater, and part interactive novel. At these pop-ups and permanent locations (the first of which opened in Portland in late 2024), your meal isn’t just served; it’s earned , discovered , and shaped by your decisions . Upon entering, you are not handed a menu. Instead, you receive a "Character Card." Each card places you into a role: the Noir Detective , the Time-Lost Librarian , the Cyberpunk Courier , or the Cozy Witch . Your role determines not only the tone of your experience but the very mechanics of your order.

So next time you pass a storefront with a sign that reads, “You are standing in a line. To your left, a pastry case. To your right, a mysterious door. What do you do?” —don’t just walk in.
